1941	Under the auspices of People’s Commissariat for Mortar Armaments, in the village of Grabovo of Bessonovskiy district, on the premises of the Plant named after Vorovsky evacuated from Melitople during the first days after the Great Patriotic War broke out, a special vehicles palnt was founded named “Prodmach”. The main mission of the plant was to manufacture components for mortars, some units for dispensers, spares for fuelers, machinery for terrain degassing.
1946	The plant was completely destroyed by the fire. After the reconstruction it was named “Grabovo Engineering Works”, and it started producing construction equipment, table vibrators and vehicles for transporting construction materials.
1949	The specialization of the plant changed. Among other things it manufactured fire-fighting equipment, áã-18 milk tanks with capacity of 1,800 liters mounted on GAZ-51 chassis, áã-4 fuel tanks on ZiS-150 (ZiL-164) chassis, agricultural ïú-1664 fuelers mounted, just like milk tanks, on “Gazon”.
1960’s     ÓÂÏÒÏÞÎÙÊ ÃÅÈ	In the late 60s the specialization of the plant in the production of fuel supply vehicles got completely formed. The period of manufacturing fire-fighting equipment, milk tanks for agriculture and other small-size machinery was over. The plant acquired the name of “Grabovo Special Vehicles Plant” and increased the output ten-fold. The annual output amounted to 6,000 vehicles and trailers. Repetition work was organized with the use of a conveyor to produce the main models. ðã-5,6-817 model for 5,600 liters was used by the Armed Forces. Armament acceptance was introduced at the plant. The general reconstruction of the plant in the late 60s aimed at replacing wooden workshops by modern structures and boosting of production in the beginning of the 90s were the main milestones in the plant’s development. In the 90s the plant expanded its range of models from 10 to 100 adapting to the requirements of the time.
Early 90’s	At the crucial moment of the 90s the company managed to keep its specialization, personnel and expertise. The family significantly changed and expanded. The company’s design office developed “trunk-type” tanks with the low center of gravity and dimensions not larger that those of the cab. Modern equipment was imported and introduced. The technology of manufacturing tanks of aluminum alloys was introduced.
1994	A decision was taken to develop a family of aircraft refuelers to substitute for old, outdated refullers produced by Mariupol plant (Ukraine). Now the aircraft refuelers of GrAZ are used in the largest airports of RF and CIS, including airports “Salekhard”, “Magnitogorsk”, “Domodedovo”, “Vnukovo”, “Sheremetievo”, “Irkutsk”, airlines “Gazpromavia”, “Yugraavia”, “Kamov”, “Surgutneftegaz”, MVZ after L.Mil, “Sibiria” carrier.
2004	The name of the plant has been changed for “Grabovo Automobile Plant” (GrAZ).
2006	The plant has celebrated its 65th anniversary. In 2006 new models of fuelers, tank semitrailers, new line of bitumen distributors, oil tankers and fuel distributors were developed and put into mass production. Quality management system of GrAZ Plant JSC was certificated as conforming to the requirements of ISO 9001.
2007	New paint-and-drying equipment was commissioned on June 28, 2007 with the use of state-of-the-art Italian and German technologies. It resulted in the increase of the output, better appearance of the products, their durability, reliability of painting and in the European quality of the lacquer coating. Now GrAZ Plant delivers special vehicles to all regions of the RF, CIS and other countries. For many years of the plant’s history GrAZ trade mark has acquired good reputation in the business community, while the plant itself has established partnership relations both in Russia and abroad. Due to the availability of modern technologies, qualified personnel, to the use of new management techniques and personal motivation of the staff, quality control at all production stages the company can be absolutely optimistic about its future.
